Yes, the name is also confusing to me!
Initially, I purchased these as a trial because the Apple product was over three times the price. I had low expectations of its performance, but now these are installed on all my bikes and I can track their locations form my phone or iPad. I have mine attached to the bike or somewhere that is hard to reach or be seen and fixed on with a cable tie.
AirTag operates by emitting a Bluetooth signal that connects to a network of approximately a billion Apple devices (such as phones, tablets and laptops).
They can be set up in minutes, offer the ability to share with others (like my wife who can track my bikes location and monitor my progress or lack of). You can name them for easy identification instead of relying on remembering a tag number and due to their own power supply and compact size they can be hidden almost anywhere.
Features:
- Uses Find My app (note – Apple Find My features only work if used with iOS or macOS)
- Share with friends or family.
- Able to page the tracker to make it ring within Bluetooth range.
- All communication with the Find My network is encrypted.
- Cheap to replace batteries.
