Niagara Falls is a group of three waterfalls located at the southern end of the Niagara Gorge, spanning the border between the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. The largest of these is the Horseshoe Falls, which straddles the international boundary between the two countries and is also referred to as the Canadian Falls. The smaller American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are situated entirely within the United States.

Formed by the Niagara River, which carries water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, the combined falls boast the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America with a vertical drop exceeding 50 meters (164 feet). During peak daytime tourist hours, over 168,000 cubic meters (5.9 million cubic feet) of water cascade over the crest of the falls each minute.
