The Norfolk Police have issued a formal statement emphasizing the importance of exercising heightened caution and attentiveness toward motorcyclists during the summer months.

With the arrival of summer, an increase in motorcyclists on the roads is expected, particularly in rural areas, as the warmer weather and longer daylight hours make riding along scenic, winding country routes more appealing. While the benefits of summer riding are clear, statistics show that the majority of fatal motorcycle incidents occur on rural roads. According to Norfolk Police, 69 percent of motorcycle fatalities in the UK happen in such areas. Consequently, the force is urging drivers in the county to exercise heightened caution around motorcyclists over the coming months by adopting simple safety measures: “look twice,” “give motorcyclists space,” “be patient on rural roads,” and “check before changing lanes or turning.” Norfolk Police emphasizes that motorcycles are smaller and more easily overlooked, particularly at junctions or when using mirrors. Drivers are advised to take extra care at roundabouts, crossings, and when pulling out or turning right, as even a brief second glance can mean the difference between a safe journey and a life‑altering collision.
