Riding in Sweden

You need understandable documents.

As a tip, it is to laminate all of your key documents or otherwise waterproof them. It is also highly recommended to scan all your original documents and email them to an easily accessible email address.

Mandatory equipment.

Helmets are mandatory.

You also need to have your license and vehicle registration certificate with you at all times, as well as your ID card or passport.

Although you won’t get a ticket if you do not have a first-aid kit or a high-visibility vest, it is recommended that you still have those, for your own safety.

In Sweden, you are obligated to keep your headlights on all the time, even during the daytime.

Speed limits.

Within towns and cities: 18 to 43 mph (30 to 70 kph).

Outside schools and hospitals: Often 18 mph (30 kph).

Outside built-up areas: 43 to 68 mph (70 to 100 kph).

Motorways: 68 to 75 mph (110 to 120 kph).

Prepare for unexpected weather.

Wind and rain are rather common in Sweden, so even if the morning is sunny, bring your raincoat and cover for your luggage with you. You never know when it will start to pour, so it is better to be safe than sorry.
