In the UK, the laws regarding wild camping vary by region:
- Scotland: Wild camping is legal under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003, allowing campers to enjoy the outdoors responsibly*.
- England: Wild camping is generally illegal without the landowner’s permission, with the exception of Dartmoor National Park where it is permitted*.
- Wales: Wild camping is illegal without landowner permission.
- Northern Ireland: Similar to England and Wales, wild camping is generally not permitted without the landowner’s consent.
*Campers can stay a maximum of two nights. Overnight stays are not permitted in vehicles, including campervans, caravans and motorhomes, and large tents are also banned. Campers must pitch up out of sight at least 100 metres from the road, and leave no trace behind.
