Avon has fully revamped its Cobra Chrome cruiser tyre, bringing this iconic product back into full production, complete with the return of classic retro whitewall options.

The Cobra Chrome remains at the core of Avon’s cruiser and custom range, now fully re-engineered following the brand’s integration into Goodyear’s motorcycle portfolio four years ago. Although the tyre never fully disappeared, this represents the first comprehensive redesign under Goodyear ownership. Notably, the updated Cobra Chrome range introduces whitewall options, with 77 sizes available for front and rear fitments, though only 14 feature the iconic white sidewall that has long made the tyre a distinctive presence on the road. Production has transitioned to Goodyear’s motorcycle manufacturing facility in Montluçon, France, a site renowned for producing Dunlop’s premium road tyres and race-winning performance products.
Several Cobra Chrome sizes had not previously been manufactured at the Montluçon facility, necessitating significant re-engineering to align with Goodyear’s stringent quality and consistency standards. Goodyear reports that these modifications have enhanced tyre uniformity, increased production efficiency, and improved overall build consistency.
Whitewall tyres come with their own set of challenges. The white rubber compound has been updated to better resist discolouration, and the sidewall construction has moved from mostly manual assembly to a more automated process. Computer-assisted quality checks are now in place to ensure a consistent finish – key when a tyre’s appearance is part of its appeal. The updated Cobra Chrome now sits in a streamlined Avon range, alongside the Roadrider MKII, Spirit ST, 3D Supersport, Trailrider, Trekrider, and the classic Safety Mileage and Speedmaster tyres. Avon is now positioned as a complementary brand to Dunlop within the Goodyear group, rather than covering every market segment alone. The Cobra Chrome range will be offered through 2026 in 77 sizes for 15–23 inch fitments, with most available now and the rest arriving throughout the year.
