The idea for the beach to beach for Sands came about from completing the Longest Day Challenge (LDC) which Nige and Ant rode for Cancer Research UK in 2025. Nige rode in memory of his son Leo and wanted to do something annually to commemorate his passing.
Sands is the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity. They are there to support everyone touched by pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.
In 1978 a group of bereaved parents formed Sands to provide much needed support to bereaved families and unite for better maternity and bereavement care. We have grown to become the UK’s leading pregnancy and baby loss charity working to save babies’ lives and providing support.
At Sands, we understand the complex range of emotions there can be when a pregnancy is lost or a baby dies.
We know that everyone is affected differently and that there is no right or wrong way to feel. Each person needs different types of support and this can change over time. Some people may be happy to talk, others might take comfort from quietly reading about others’ experiences, while some may prefer to meet face to face and share their experience.
Not wanting to jump on the band wagon of LEJoG or JoGLE, it was decided to do a coast to coast with a difference! The plan is to start in either Scotland or Wales and end in the other. Sticking with the LDC rules, no motorways will be include which means that this run is open to CBT riders with a 125cc and above.
Unlike the LDC, there will be no budget requirement, however prizes will be available for best dressed rider, best modified bike and best overall bike (these will all be chosen by the riders).
Date of the event is TBC but looking around July or August and will be on a weekend. The plan is to get to the start the day before and stay over (all this will be included in the cost of entry (TBC)).
I will stress, THIS IS NOT A RACE OR A TIME TRIAL, whether you finish first or last, you will all be heroes!
