So who is John?
John McGuinness, famously known as “The Morecambe Missile,” is a distinguished English motorcycle road racer celebrated for his remarkable 23 victories at the Isle of Man TT and his enduring, decades-spanning career in the demanding discipline of road racing.
McGuinness commenced his circuit racing career in 1990 at the age of 18, initially competing in endurance road events such as those held at Aintree. Transitioning from a background in motocross to road racing, he made his debut at the Isle of Man TT in 1996 and achieved his first victory in the prestigious event with a win in the 1999 Junior 250cc race.

John Warren McGuinness was born on 16 April 1972 in Morecambe, Lancashire, England. Immersed in the world of motorcycles from an early age due to his father’s ownership of a motorcycle repair shop, he initially pursued vocational training as a bricklayer during the 1980s. However, economic challenges prompted him to undertake work in the cockle fishing industry before ultimately committing himself fully to a professional racing career.
In May 2017, McGuinness sustained severe injuries during a practice session in Northern Ireland, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. He made a steady recovery, participating in a Parade lap in 2018 and securing victory in the Classic TT on a 500 cc Paton later that year. His competitive spirit endured as he continued to take part in TT events, including the TT Zero electric race, and achieved further Classic TT triumphs in 2019.
