KTM and Husqvarna, both under the Pierer Mobility group, have issued a recall for models using the liquid-cooled 399cc Single engine. For KTM, this includes the 2024-2025 390 Duke, as well as the 2025 390 Enduro R, 390 SMC R, 390 Adventure R, and 390 Adventure X. For Husqvarna, the affected bikes are the 2024 Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401.

Testing revealed a condition that might cause the engine to stall at low RPM. While only a few cases have been reported, all owners of the listed models will get a free update to fix the problem.

An ECU software update will be rolled out to help reduce the risk of engine stalling, particularly at low speeds or when slowing down. The brands say the update will also boost rideability, enhance low-end torque, and improve overall engine stability.

Owners of affected motorcycles will get a notification letter and be asked to reach out to their dealer to schedule the software update. The update is completely free at authorized dealers for each brand. You can check if your motorcycle is affected and find a list of dealers in the “Service” section of the KTM and Husqvarna websites.

For the 2024 model year, the engine got a major upgrade. Displacement jumped from 373cc to 399cc, horsepower climbed to 45 hp, and torque rose to 28.8 lb-ft. It’s also lighter now, with better cooling, faster warm-up times, longer service intervals, and other tweaks. The revamped engine first appeared in the 2024 KTM 390 Duke, then made its way to the 2024 Husqvarna ’Pilens and the 2025 390 KTMs.
