Long day rides.
This page has come about because a lot of people have asked what I used and took with me on the Longest Day Challenge 2025 (Lands End to John O’Groats).
This ride accumulated in 1034.6 miles and over 24 hours in the saddle.
I had ridden many 10 hour+ days before, but this was the first time to that extent and level of riding and keeping the concentration levels there throughout.
I took four bags with me plus my phone and sat nav, I will break everything down into bags.

The rule of thumb with packing for long distance days is pretty much the same as packing for motorbike camping and that is to take only what you need.
Bags:
Backpack one:
Lomo Dry Bag Daysack (review to come soon).
- Hygiene (tooth brush & paste, shower gel, deodorant and towel).
- Clothes (spare t-shirts, boxers and socks – although the challenge was one day, we had a day traveling both ways)
- Spare charging leads and 240V USB plug.
Backpack two:
Wpsagek camel pack hydration bag.
- Pretty obvious this one, but I had water in the bladder.
- Small high protein snacks like beef jerky (I will admit I didn’t even eat these).
Leg bag:
- Bank card, pretty obvious what this is for.
- Cash, you never know when a card will not work or a problem with the terminal.
- Ear plugs.
- Backup maps/directions.
- Phone/backup phone.
- Spare SD card and battery for GoPro.
- Spare key for bike and disc lock.
- Cigs/vape what ever you need with you and don’t want to spend an age looking for it.
Tail bag:
LoneRider Explorer Duffel Dry bag (review to come soon).
- Zorax oversuit, waterproof layer.
- Oxford Mondial 2.0* laminate motorcycle pants.
- Fleece jacket* (funnily enough, I took a Suzuki one to ride a Yamaha…….).
- Baby wipes.
- Water.
- Snacks (banana, flapjack).
- Spare oil (1ltr).
- Halfords 1/4″ socket set with some extra sockets and screwdrivers.
- Multifunction tool (including pliers).
- Spare fuses and bulbs.
- Oxford tyre repair kit.
*These items were well needed in Scotland at 2am!
Clothing:
- Rippl Apex ride boxers.
- Qaswa Motorcycle jeans with aramid protection lining.
- Spada strider trainers.
- RST pilot textile jacket.
- RST rider gloves.
- Mida MV-3 adventure helmet.
- Alpinestars neck warmer.
Electronics:
- Ultimate addons phone holder.
- Beeline Moto2 (review to come soon).
