Nearly one in four UK drivers admit they’re not confident sharing the road with motorcyclists, according to new research from insurance broker Carole Nash. The survey revealed that 24% of motorists feel uneasy when driving near bikes, with the number jumping to 50% among younger drivers aged 18–24.

A third of respondents said they prefer driving when there are fewer motorcycles on the road, while only 15% enjoy seeing more riders out and about. “Every year, we see more bikes on the road as the weather improves, which is great,” said Daniel Nield, Associate Bike Director at Carole Nash. “But with more riders returning for spring, these findings show the importance of greater awareness and understanding between motorists and motorcyclists.” “Safe roads rely on both drivers and riders working together, and a bit more patience, awareness and understanding on both sides can make a huge difference.”
