There is no budget for this challenge, any bike any cost. I will be using the bike that I did the Longest Day Challenge (LDC) 2025 on, a 2008 Yamaha FZ6 S2.
It performed faultlessly, was comfortable and did everything I asked of it, so why would I consider anything else?
I learnt a lot on the LDC, more about the bike and preparation than myself.
Needless to say, I was very impressed with the bike!
So the plans for the bike to get it ready:
- Handlebar nav mount.
- Extra lights for the dark side of the ride.
- Chain oiler (on the LDC we had five pitstops where the chain would be oiled, this luxury is not an option on this challenge).
- Extra USB charger (one of my biggest regrets from the LDC 25 was not recording the ride).
- New tank bag (the rest of the luggage will be equipment that I already have and use).
On top of this is the normal servicing (a full service including coolant & brake fluid flush, new brake pads all round and a grease of anything & everything that moves) and a couple of small repairs that have been on the cards for a while.
Overall the bike is in good condition although not the prettiest – that was supposed to be a job for this year to tidy it up a little, that may end up being completed after the ride!
